There's a version of design leadership where you inherit a functioning team, a proven process, and a seat at the table. That's not the version I've had.
What I've had instead is the harder ask — build something that didn't exist, earn trust that wasn't assumed, and create the systems that let design actually stick. That pattern shaped how I lead.
I lead teams and I do the work. Not as a fallback — because the hardest design problems still need someone who can go deep on craft. I operate at both levels and move between them.
